Your English speaking guide will help you relax and enjoy the area without worrying about any accessibility problems.

② Hakone Shrine (10:00-10:30)
Make a short stop at Hakone Shrine to experience the atmosphere of a mystical old Japanese shrine from the Heian period. Lying at the foot of Mount Hakone along the shores of Lake Ashi, it is a peaceful place to start your tour. There are many stairs in front of the main shrine so your driver will take the car access road directly to the main temple.

Lake Ashi is a scenic lake formed over 3000 years ago by a volcanic eruption. It is famous for the red torii gates of Hakone Shrine and clear views of Mt. Fuji, both the real thing and its reflection on the lake. Take a 30 minute cruise across the lake on a pirate ship operated by Hakone Sightseeing Boats.

First take the Hakone Ropeway from Togendai to Owakudani (16 minutes), then enjoy lunch with a view of the volcanic Owakudani at the Owakudani Station Dining Hall. Be sure to try the kuro-tamago (eggs cooked in the hot springs with blackened shells due to the sulfer).

Located in a vast green garden with a view of the mountains, the museum has on permanent display some 120 masterpieces by famous modern and contemporary sculptors. The exhibits are designed so that you can immerse yourself in them and there are a multitude of displays both indoors and outdoors. Feel free to stop for a refresher at the museum café.
