Nakatsu Canyon, part of the famed Niyodo River system, is known for its turquoise waters and untouched beauty. One of Japan’s top canyoning spots, it's an amazing location surrounded by lush forests, rugged rock formations, and the sounds of flowing water.
This tour is made for adrenaline seekers and nature lovers looking for a thrilling escape and a unique way to experience Japan's nature. It's also perfect for cruise ship passengers stopping at Kochi Port who want a more exciting, active experience outside of the typical shore excursions.
It already includes private chartered transfers by car from Kochi port or your requested location within Kochi city.
Itinerary:
① Pick-up in Kochi port or Kochi city
② Arrive at Niyodo Adventure's base to check in
・Fill out registration and insurance forms
・Receive a safety briefing and get fitted with wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, and life jackets
③ Canyoning tour
・Take a 15-minute drive to the canyon
・Spend about 2 hours in the canyon: Abseil down waterfalls, jump into deep pools, swim through crystal-blue water, and enjoy stunning scenery along the way
・ Return to base and take showers if you like
*Your guide will take photos and videos using GoPro and DJI high-quality action cameras. All footage will be sent to your email address.
④ Stop for lunch or snacks

・Yunomori
At Yunomori, you can enjoy a Japanese-style lunch that uses authentic local ingredients. The Yunomori Bento is a particularly popular menu item - including Kochi's famous seared bonito and vegetables grown in the area using the water of the pristine Niyodo River.
・CHA CAFÉ ASUNARO
This café and restaurant is attached to the Sawatari green tea plantation, one of many tea farms around Kochi! The large windows offer wonderful views of the river while visitors enjoy the tasty cuisine. It's run by Noriaki Kishimoto, a local tea farmer who wanted to showcase local green tea through various dishes. Choices range from their popular green tea udon to the subtly sweet green tea waffles.

In case there is time to spare before or after the canyoning tour, we recommended a visit to either of the following locations in the area!
・Uryu Falls and Nakatsu Gorge
Take a short 2 km trek alongside the pristine river, occasionally walking over stepping stones and small bridges. On the way, be on the look out for statues around the trail dedicated to the shichifukujin (Seven Gods of Fortune) and try to find them all. At the end of the path, you will be greeted by a thundering waterfall, Uryu-no-Taki!
・Niko Deep or "Nikobuchi"
See the captivating beauty of the Nikobuchi pool, renowned for its deep blue color that changes depending on the time of day. Relax, feel the cool breeze, and take in the tranquil views.
⑥ Drop-off at Kochi port or Kochi city
※ Depending on the availability and schedule of the canyoning tour or your cruise ship schedule, the order above may be changed. You can also do some sightseeing first or have lunch before doing the canyoning tour.

・Participants must be 13 years old or older to participate unless they are very proficient swimmers. Basic swimming skills are also important for anyone participating. Some jumps can be skipped but not all. It is best to ensure participants understand that this is an active tour.
・In case someone does not end up participating, as an alternative, Japanese cooking classes may be available in the same building as Niyodo Adventure's base.
・Changing rooms and showers are available at the experience site.
・Please bring your own swimsuit, footwear, a towel, and a change of clothes.
・Start times may change depending on the season and availability.
・There will be a guide for the canyoning tour, but there will be no interpreter guide accompanying you to/from Kochi city and during sightseeing. Please inquire if you want to request for an English-speaking guide (with an additional charge).
・The tour may be cancelled in the case of extreme bad weather, in which case we will contact you in advance. In some cases, if the canyoning tour is cancelled due to the weather, it can be converted to a packrafting or rafting tour.
