① Tochoji Temple(9:20〜10:00)
The vibrant, vermilion five-storied pagoda stands out within the green trees as a symbol of Tochoji Temple. It was built in 806 by Kukai, the founder of Shingon sect. The Great Buddha towers over 10 meters tall, enveloping you in its presence. On the temple grounds, there is also a building called Rokkakudo, a registered cultural property of Fukuoka City. Complete with a weeping cherry tree that blooms majestically in the spring, you can experience the colors of nature. Your guide will tell you all the highlights.

② Kushida Shrine(10:10〜10:50)
Kushida Shrine is said to be the oldest shrine in Fukuoka. The god of prosperous business and longevity guards over Hakata from here, and has been loved by locals since ancient times. The water of the spirit spring that wells up from under the main shrine is believed to grant longevity. In addition, there is a lifting stone called the “Chikaraishi” that famous sumo champions have lifted as well as festival floats that are on display all year giving an extra boost of Japanese charm. If you are confident in your power, you can try and lift the stone yourself.

Ohori Park is a historical park that originally functioned as a moat for Fukuoka Castle. Today, it is loved by locals as an oasis in the city center where many water birds and turtles live. Fukuoka Castle was built over a 7 year period from 1601 to 1608, and there are still original walls and gates. The castle tower is an observatory and is a pleasant place where you can see the whole city of Fukuoka. With cherry blossoms in spring, and beautiful autumn leaves in fall, you can enjoy the beautiful nature unique to each season.

An Amazing Tour With An Incredible Guide

Our family spent two days in Fukuoka. The best part of our trip was our walking tour with Akiko-san. We’ve been on a few trips in Japan, but this was our first guided tour. My wife and I were nervous because we have three kids, two of them are younger. We have to travel and their pace, so a group tour wasn’t an option. Akiko was amazing. She was patient and had no problem slowing the pace down when the kids were getting tired. She planned a custom itinerary that included stops that were interesting for the adults and kids. On our walking tour we visited the Tochiji Temple, Kushida Shrine, Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, Kawabata Shopping Arcade, and Fukuoka Tower. The kids particularly enjoyed Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, where they played with some traditional Japanese toys, watched a demonstration of the Hakata fabric loom, and learned about the Hakata Gion Yamakasa (float festival). The Fukuoka Tower was also a hit with them. My wife and I enjoyed the Tochoji Temple and the huge Buddha daibutsu inside. Akiko was very knowledgeable about the history of Hakata and Fukuoka. She could answer nearly every question we asked during our tour. She was also very familiar with the area, which was helpful when we were looking for lunch (we had an excellent baked curry), or needed a new pair of socks (my 4 y.o. jumped into a rain puddle). Altogether we couldn't have asked for a better day in Fukuoka. Akiko-san made our trip a very special, memorable day for the family.

Amazing time in Fukuoka

Everything, Miyuki was an amazing guide. She helped with logistics and planned everything. When one of the places we were supposed to go to was closed she immediately found another place within walking distance. Honestly because of Miyuki, I would give the tour a 12 out of 10.

Fun-Filled Day that Felt Like a Family Outing

We had a wonderful and memorable 1-day walking tour of Hakata with Miyuki Yoshida ably acting as an experienced and knowledgeable guide. We were especially grateful for her patience and flexibility in accommodating all of our special requests. With just the two of us on the tour, the words "custom" and "personal" come to mind as she tailored the city tour to our interests and needs. She hit all the major attractions while incorporating all of our desires when it came to shopping and eating. We recommend Miyuki-san and this 1-day walking tour without hesitation.

Yuki, you are a gem and a blessing!

It was our first time in fukuoka... and we had ZERO knowledge how to get around, so we booked a tour on our first day to familiarize ourselves. we got MORE than what we expected, and we absolutely LOVE our tour guide Miyuki Yoshida-san, Yuki for short. Aside from the tour, She helped us also plan and prepare for the rest of our 5 day event, over and above what we expected. Yuki, you are a gem and a blessing! the tour was lovely, but our guide Yuki was lovelier. :)

Best Tour Guide

We had such a wonderful time on our tour with Miyuki! She is very knowledgeable and such a kind and caring person. She planned our itinerary according to our interest and went out of her way to ensure that we enjoyed our vacation! She offered suggestions to restaurants, took us to shops where we could purchase items we were interested in and gave us an overview on how to use the subway. We highly recommend Miyuki as a tour guide!

Miyuki Yoshida is the Best Guide!

We did a private Hakata tour with Miyuki Yoshida that involved walking, using public transportation, and covered about 7 hours. Although it was a holiday, we had many interesting sites to see Inc Tochoji Temple, Kushida Shrine, the Folk Museum with a wonderful video about the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival, a shopping district that was quite busy, a sake brewery for samples and peaceful Ohori Park Inc the Japanese Garden. Our Guide, Miyuki, is a delight to be with! She is organized, very knowledgeable and very kind. We would highly recommend Miyuki. Ask for her; you will not be disappointed! We hope to see her again! We had Tateno Yoko as our guide for the 1 day Hakata Tour on 27 Feb ’24. Yoko-san had prepared notes and photos on lunch options - we selected Ramen eventually and had a good lunch at Tenjin (we should have gotten bigger bowls!)

The tour involved walking, using public transport (subway) and we clocked perhaps close to 20K steps at the end of the 7.5hrs tour!

Places covered include Jotenji Temple > Tochoji Temple > Kushida Shrine > Hakatamachiya Furusatokan > Kawabata Shopping Arcade > Ramen lunch at Tenjin > scenic & peaceful Ohori Park with yummy matcha & red bean dessert at Ohori Terrace > Japanese garden > Fukuoka Castle ruins (we skipped the Ishikura Sake Brewery in the planned itinerary as we were not keen for sake).
This is a private tour (need min. 1 person) using public transport on Fukuoka City subway line. I will suggest that perhaps Designer Inc (Omakase Tour) could consider purchasing 1-day subway pass for tourists instead of having the guide queue up at each station to purchase ticket?

We appreciate Yoko-san’s patience and accommodating us for tea-break, allowing us to return to Kawabata Shopping Arcade near end of tour to purchase souvenirs & tea. she also recommended juicy strawberries to buy and took nice photos for us! Our trip to Fukuoka was made more memorable with Yoko-san.

we Highly recommend first time travellers to Fukuoka to consider signing up for this 1 day tour to learn more about Fukuoka and Hakata!

Enjoyable and informative

Dear Mayumi. The one day walking tour of Hakata was excellent. You were a great guide and the tour was enjoyable and informative. The weather was kind and the walk around the lake and the Japanese Garden was wonderful, as were the visits to the temples and the Sake tasting. Thank you again for a great experience.

A ray of Sunshine

This was a very informative walk curated by Yoko. She told us Yoko means sunshine. She certainly lived up to her name as she was engaging, curious and made the tour fun and interesting. We could not possibly have had a better day without her. I highly recommend this tour…and this tour guide.

Greatly enhanced by Yoko's incredible warmth

My boyfriend and I experienced a remarkable day exploring Hakata and Fukuoka, greatly enhanced by Yoko's incredible warmth, generosity, and the essence of Japanese hospitality. The tour offered a perfect introduction to the region, which was invaluable given our limited time in Fukuoka. Yoko also guided us to Kitsutei for lunch, a hidden gem we would have never found on our own. The ease of communication with the tour company and Yoko meeting us at our hotel in the morning added to the convenience. I wholeheartedly endorse this tour and Yoko's exceptional guidance.

Great day with Kenny

Great day with Kenny (Kinuyo Koikawa). She was very knowledgeable about the sights. Greatful for her and the company's flexibility. We had an unplanned trip to see the Reclined Buddha in lieu of a couple of original stops. Unplanned always the best!

This can be a good 1 day trip in your plan.

Highly recommend this day trip. People who want to travel to Hakata/Fukoka city in the morning and travel to the next destination should definitely consider this. This merchant town has many good spot to visit and my guide Ms. Yoko Tateno was very polite and helpful and answer all my questions about the culture
