A wheelchair friendly guided tour of Hiroshima and Miyajima.
Hiroshima is known for being the site where an atomic bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945. Almost everything within a 2km radius of the bomb site was destroyed, causing great devastation to the city. Since the end of the war, much effort was put into rebuilding the city, while leaving many reminders in order not to forgot, like the surviving Atomic Bomb Dome. On the tour you will take a wheelchair friendly route around Hiroshima to view the Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Park Memorial and Museum. The guide will allow you personal space to reflect, before escorting you on a barrier free route to Miyajima Island, where you’ll spend a lighter afternoon amongst the deer and famous red torii gate.
This tour is run using accessible public transportation, not with a private car. It is possible to conduct the tour using a private car upon request for an extra fee.
① Hotel pickup (9:00)
The guide will meet you in your hotel lobby and escort you to the first site.
② Atomic bomb dome (9:15-9:40)
The Atomic Bomb Dome is a symbol of peace for the city of Hiroshima. Used originally as a prefectural hall, the dome was blown up during the blast, killing everyone inside. However the structure of the dome remained and has been used as a symbol of the people’s wish for peace ever since, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996. Your guide will offer you history and explanations, while allowing you to reflect on the tragedy that occurred.
③ Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (9:45-10:20)
Located next to the Dome, the Peace Memorial Park was once a busy commercial downtown area. These days it is a quiet green space, dedicated to remembering those we lost and our hope for a more peaceful future. The guide will help you traverse the park by wheelchair, providing history and explanations when you wish.
④ Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum (10:20-11:20)
The Memorial Museum will be a somber experience, where you will see belongings left by the victims of the bombing as well as heart-wrenching testimony by the survivors. View photos of the massive devastation at the time and learn about the military aspect of the attack. The guide will step back and allow you to process the exhibits in your own way.
⑤ Lunch (11:40-12:30)
Relax and decompress after the confronting mourning with some lunch.
⑥ Green Mover Tram #2 to Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi (12:30-13:30)
The guide will escort you on a wheelchair friendly tram to the ferry port.
⑦ Ferry to Miyajima (13:40-13:50)
Take a quick ferry to the island.
⑧ Itsukushima shrine and the red torii gates (14:00-14:50)
Known worldwide for its iconic floating torii gate, Itsukushima is the symbol of Miyajima Island. This is a beautiful, peaceful place where you can bask in the sun while enjoying the seaside views. The roaming deer that wander everywhere make this island quite unique too. After viewing the tori gate, move on to Itsukushima Shrine, following an accessible route throughout. The shrine consists of a prayer hall, a main hall and a noh theater stage, which are connected by boardwalks and supported by pillars above the sea.
⑨ Miyajima Daiganji Temple (14:50-15:10)
Daiganji Temple is dedicated to Benzaiten, the Goddess of eloquence, music, wisdom and wealth, and is known as one of the three most famous Benzaiten Temples in Japan.
⑩ Miyajima Omotesando Shopping Street (15:15-15:45)
This old shopping street is filled with deer and many shops, restaurants and cafes. Wander at your own pace, stop for a snack or to buy some souvenirs.
⑪ Return by ferry/train to hotel (15:55-17:00)
• Visit the still-standing Atomic Bomb Dome

Hiroshima history and Miyajima magic!
Nagako planned our day so that we ventured to the World Heritage listed Itsukashima Shrine on the island of Miyajima early, enabling us to avoid the crowds and enjoy a special ceremony before a welcome morning tea. At Hiroshima Peace Park, she explained the significance of each site before exploring the very moving Museum. Nagako has excellent English and great knowledge of Japanese history and culture. Thank you for being a highlight of our travels in Japan!

Wild deers and interesting places
Very good experience with our tour guide, Momo. She was very accommodating with our food and meeting point/time requests. We discussed many interesting facts about Japanese culture and habits. The itinerary was also excellent. Even my 15-year-old son, despite being somewhat tired of walking, commented that the places we visited were very interesting. We also took a few super cool pictures with the wild deers on the island!

A moving day at Miyajima and Hiroshime
We met Nagako at the Shinkansen station for our day trip to Miyajima and Hiroshima. She was wonderful! She is so knowledgeable about the history of the areas and was very personal. We all remarked about how sensitive and caring she was, too, while in Hiroshima and visiting the various monuments and the peace museum. It was a very moving experience and we were so glad to have had Nagako there with us!

Fantastic day In Hiroshima!!
We had a fabulous day in Hiroshima with our guide, Nagako. First we went to Miyajima and enjoyed the wonderful sights there - including the huge red Torii gate and shrine. Nagako knew all the best spots for photos, and shared her wonderful knowledge on the sights around the island, always able to answer our questions. After lunch, we went to the Hiroshima peace park and museum, a really moving and informative experience. The whole day went really smoothly and absolutely flew by. Thank you Yukiko!
Thank you so much for the lovely day Yukiko as you took us on a day tour of Hiroshima & Miyajima. It was such a pleasure meeting you. The tour of Hiroshima was as sombre and confronting as it should be and your knowledge vast. Thank you for letting us take as much time as we needed to respect the past. We then visited Miyajima. What a beautiful and special place to go after the very reflective morning we had. You are a very warm and knowledgeable host and we loved spending the day with you! Matthew & Michelle Hay

Fantastic Tour with Motoko – Highly Recommended!
We had an absolutely fabulous day touring Osaka, Hiroshima, and Miyajima with Motoko as our guide. Despite the cold weather, we were lucky to experience a bit of snow, which added a magical touch to the day.
Motoko's warm and engaging personality made the entire experience even more special. Her deep knowledge of the local history and temples was truly insightful, and we learned so much while exploring these beautiful locations. She shared fascinating stories and cultural details that brought the sites to life.
One of the highlights of the day was the incredible lunch of local oysters and okonomiyaki – both were absolutely delicious and gave us a real taste of the region's culinary delights.
Motoko's company was lovely throughout, and we genuinely enjoyed every moment with her. We would wholeheartedly recommend her as a guide to anyone looking to explore these areas. Thank you so much, Motoko, for an unforgettable experience!

Amazing tour and guide!
Azusa was great! She met us in the lobby of our hotel (The Knot) and was ready to go. She was very knowledgeable of the areas/site and history and worked with our schedule. She translated our needs to the local vendors to assist with purchases. The tour was seamless!
We had to end early and she was kind enough to take us to the Shinkansen line to catch our train back to Tokoyo. I would definitely recommend her!
