Moriuchi Tea Farm is run by a husband and wife team who are the ninth generation owners of the farm, it having been in existence since the Edo Period. They are passionate about passing down their knowledge to others and preserving their families heritage, and they welcome visitors to explore their farm.
Their method of producing the best tea was to examine the land's features and plant each tea cultivar in the best spot for each type. As they have many hillsides, they have sunny spots, shady spots, steep spots, humid spots and so on. Each factor can influence the tea leaves.
The farm has many varieties of green tea such as yumesuruga which is nice and sweet, sofu which is heavily aromatic, and tsuyuhikari which is perfect in summer.

Japanese Tea Tastung at a Tea Plantation with a view of passing Steam Locomotive

It was a wonderful tour and we enjoyed the time at the family Sakyoen.
We were very impressed about our Guide Hiroyo-San and her kind-fullness. We had so much fun when Tea-picking and we sang a original Japanese Tea-picking-Song. Thank you so much to Hiroyo!

Great green tea!!

Drinking great green tea is a pleasure. Yet understanding which steps are needed to make such a well-tasting drink with the tea leaves plants make the experience even better. Hence, we decided to do the tea tour to learn more about the process of growing, harvesting and processing the tea leaves to be able to sip a great cup of tea. We came with curiosity and many questions for the tea farmer (Yuichiro) and interpreter (Akiyo) that showed us around. Yuichiro showed us his tea plant fields and answered us all questions we had regarding the technical and economical aspects of tea production. We even had the chance to visit his home to have a tea tasting and to see the „production line“ (it‘s a small family production) for tea. We highly recommend doing this tour, it was a great experience, we really enjoyed the hospitality and enthusiasm of our host(s) and guide(s)!

Assolutamente consigliato!

Perfect day spent on a tea farm and viewing Mount Fuji

We had a perfect guideid tour with our guide Miyuki, everything went smoothly and we were lucky with the weather too so we were able to get a full view of Mount Fuji. The hosts at the tea farm were super friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed getting to know the details of tea picking and different types of teas including a tea tasting. Overall a great experience!

Exceptional teas at a lovely farm

It was a rainy day when we went on this tour but that made the countryside very atmospheric. We had such an amazing time - Moriuchi tea farm were so welcoming and knowledgeable, and our guide Atsuko was fantastic and shared all kinds of knowledge about Japan as well as about Shizuoka and tea. The teas are delicious.

she kept us smiling and learning all day

We had an absolutely wonderful experience with our tour guide, Miyuki, during our visit to Shizuoka. From the moment she greeted us at the port, she impressed us with her deep knowledge of the region, and a sharp wit that made the entire day both engaging and fun.

Our first stop at Miho no Matsubara was breathtaking — the view of Mount Fuji through the pine trees was picture-perfect, and Miyuki enriched the experience with fascinating stories and cultural insights. As we later explored the historic Leyasu Shrine, her thoughtful commentary and attention to detail made every stop feel meaningful and memorable.

What really made Miyuki stand out was her ability to blend insightful storytelling with light-hearted humor — she kept us smiling and learning all day. She was also incredibly attentive to our comfort and made sure we had the best possible experience at every turn.

We’re so grateful to Miyuki for making our day in Shizuoka truly unforgettable. We would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for an insightful, witty, and genuinely delightful guide!
