Immerse yourself in the traditional craft of sand casting at a rare, retro factory in Kanazawa.

Overview

Established in 1714, Kanamori Alloy is a long-established foundry company located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, with its roots in the service of Maeda Toshinaga, the lord of the Kaga Domain.
They have inherited traditional sand casting that has continued since the Edo period, and metal refining technology that even allows them to create the supplies for rocket parts.
Since the opening of the factory, they have been committed to recycling during the manufacturing process.
During this tour you will not only learn about the history of this historically renowned company, but you will also create your very own tableware under the expert guidance of a local artisan.

9:30 - 10:00 Meet your guide at your hotel in Kanazawa and move by private car to Kanamori Alloy

② 10:00 - 10:30 Learn about the history of this historical foundry and choose the tableware you would like to create
among the options you will have traditional confectionery knives used to cut Japanese sweets. In Kanazawa they are also used instead of forks or toothpicks.
Since aluminum casting is a metal with excellent thermal conductivity, they can also be used as a butter knife.

10:30 - 11:30 Become a blacksmith and create your own tableware item
Under the expert guidance of a local craftsman you will experience sand mold making and observe the process of casting aluminum alloy melted at approximately 800°C.

④ 11:30 - 12:00 Admire other works from Kanamori Alloy
After your experience is over, you will be able to admire the many works created by the artisans.
Among them you will see the Pin-less Kenzan, a new method of flower arrangement made of copper and scientifically proven to help extend the life of the flowers.
