Overview

While Magome or Tsumago is a small village, it has remained largely unchanged for 150 years.
Nakatsugawa developed as the major center of the area, mainly for the lumber and silk fiber industries. Its center maintains a charming atmosphere with its narrow back streets where only walking is possible. Its confining nature allows explorers to feel a sense of familiarity with the locals living there. The city has an abundance of traditional sweet shops (mainly Japanese) and many welcome their customers to rest a while. Get a sense of local everyday life as you breathe in the sights, sounds and scents of historic Nakatsugawa. This tour is suitable as an add-on (before and after) tour for Magome and Tsumago visits. Get a feel for the local flavor with us!

Highlights

・Fascinating walking scenery and delicious traditional Japanese sweets.
Discover the historic side of Edo Period.
・Yummy sweet-shops which have hundreds of histories alongside of Nakasendo.
・Feel and smell the daily life in Japan.
The Origami experience how to make a Japanese helmet and sword.

Note

・Participants must be able to walk at least 6 km. Please join us wearing shoes that are easy to walk in.
・Due to the narrow nature of the streets, you will be in close quarters with the local people. Please refrain from speaking loudly, and hide your presence like A Ninja, though you won’t need a costume!
・All the alleys have public access, but when you take photographs, please bear in mind about the residents’ privacy and refrain from taking photos such as people relaxing in their home or of their laundry hanging out to dry.
・Infants and children to be cared for by yourself.
