The ticket gates of JR Tenma Station, which is also easily walkable from the Ogimachi subway station (one may be better than the other, depending on where you are coming from).
Just before sunset, we'll meet at Tenma Station (on the JR loop line, just one stop from Osaka Station/Umeda), which puts us right in the middle of a very old part of Osaka. First, we'll head to neighboring Ogimachi Park, taking in the views and getting oriented. Then it's time to dive in to Tenma proper! While walking around, your guide will explain the history and context of the area.
After about thirty minutes of walking around, we'll stop for our first drink and bit of food for the night, in the heart of Tenma. Food will vary by restaurant and your tastes over the course of the evening, but typical dishes include "kushi katsu" (fried food on sticks), "dote nikomi" (slow cooked beef... parts), "tonpei yaki" (a grilled pork and egg dish), and some healthier things as well -- I promise!
After some time in Tenma, we'll hop on a train for the short ride to Kyobashi, where the vibe is a bit grittier, but equally fun! It's an old area, but it's by no means dangerous at all, so you can rest easy on that one. In Kyobashi, we'll walk around about 15 minutes before stopping at a "standing bar" for more food and a drink of so. A bit more exploring, and we'll stop and one final place to round out the night.
Osaka is famous for its food, and you're going to see it all tonight!
Your tour will take you to three different open/standing bars that also serve food and the two neighborhoods of Tenma and Kyobashi. The tour includes at least a few small plates of food, three drinks, and the train ticket between the two neighborhoods. Additional food and drinks can be purchased.
